CANTO DE LA AVE RAPIEGA
BY IVAN BOZICEVIC
FOR ADVANCED CELLO AND PIANO

“Canto de la Ave Rapiega” was a 2014 Abundant Silence Publishing composition contest winner.  This exciting work for cello and piano, with Spanish influences, is an excellent addition to any cellist’s concert repertoire.  The title translates as “The chant of the bird of prey.”

Canto de la ave rapiega - The chant of the bird of prey

Birds of prey do not sing.

They utter themselves wildly, apprehensively, solitarily.

But those who manage to intuit their inner voice

become mesmerized with that chant.

The Spanish musical idiom was not a random choice.

The poetics of contrast – life and death, fire and cold, intense and passionate -

constitute a metaphysical plateau from which we can observe our essence

through the eye of the sky traveler.
