FOR SOLO VIOLIN
“tanz.tanz” by Reiko Fueting was the 2014 Abundant Silence Publishing composition contest first place winner. This highly detialed and contemporary solo violin piece is a modern work of art. This piece is a perfect addition to any professional violinist’s concert repertoire.
Notes from the composer:
The composition tanz.tanz (dance.dance) for solo violin was commissioned by Alexandrina Boyanova. The general form of the piece is based on an analysis of Bach’s Chaconne by German musicologist Helga Thoene, to whom the piece is dedicated. The choral tunes that she discovered – which are woven into the texture of this unique conclusion of the D minor Partita – form the original material. Another reference, which is reflected in the title as well, is the novel Dance Dance Dance by Haruki Murakami.
A sense of pulse paired with flexibility is important for the performance of the composition, which was preceded by the Gigue of the D minor Partita at its premiere. The tempo should not be slower than indicated, in order to create a sense of frantic wildness, which ranges from suppression to eruption.
